Every authority sets its own rules for official translations. A translation in the wrong form, without the right certification or legalisation, is often returned, holding up registrations, court proceedings and cross border deals.

Certified translation

A translation with a signed statement of accuracy from Guildhawk, accepted by many UK bodies and businesses.

Notarised translation

The translator's declaration is witnessed by a notary public, for documents that require formal verification.

Sworn translation

Produced by a translator officially sworn before a court in countries that require it, such as Spain, France, Italy and Germany.

How it works

We confirm what the receiving authority needs before work begins.

1

Confirm requirements

Tell us where the document will be used and we confirm the certification it needs.

2

Translate

A legal translator prepares the translation, preserving names, dates, stamps and seals.

3

Certify

We attach a signed certificate of accuracy to the translation.

4

Notarise or swear

Where required, the translation is notarised or prepared by a sworn translator.

5

Legalise

We coordinate apostille or consular legalisation when the destination country requires it.

QUESTIONS

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between certified, notarised and sworn?

A certified translation carries our signed statement of accuracy. A notarised translation adds verification by a notary public. A sworn translation is produced by a translator officially appointed by a court, which some countries require.

It depends on the authority receiving the document. Tell us where it will be submitted and we will confirm the right option before we start.

Yes. Where the destination country is party to the Hague Apostille Convention, we coordinate the apostille. For other countries, we coordinate consular legalisation.

For most translations a clear scan is enough. Some notarial and legalisation steps need the original, and we will tell you when this applies.
